Ecosupport is an expanding ecological consultancy based in Hampshire. We provide high quality ecological support across a broad range of sectors including residential, transport, utility and site restoration. Our key aim is to help our clients achieve the best outcomes for their schemes whilst securing net benefits for the environment.

Ecosupport is currently hiring Project Ecologists, Assistant Ecologists, Seasonal Bat Surveyors and an Office Administrator. See below for details.

Project Ecologist

The Role:

Your role will be to plan, manage and deliver professional ecological services to a broad range of clients. You will be responsible for the coordination of surveys and field staff, as well as liaison with clients and other professionals and organisations.

You will be based in Lee on the Solent, Hampshire, with travel throughout the region and occasionally the surrounding areas. Your time will be divided between office and field-based work.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaison with clients and other professionals and organisations
  • Production of technical ecological reports including impact assessment and mitigation strategies
  • EPS licence applications
  • Project coordination and management, including coordination of surveys and field staff
  • In-field ecology and protected species surveys

Qualifications:

The following experience is essential:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree as a minimum
  • At least two years’ experience, capable of taking on your own projects and clients as soon as settled into the team
  • Experience with:
    • Production of a range of technical reports including impact assessment and mitigation strategies
    • EPS licence applications
    • Project coordination and management
    • Client liaison & project tendering
    • Strong all-around field skills
  • Strong communication, organisation and team working skills, positive attitude, self-discipline and a desire to be challenged
  • Full drivers licence

The following are recommended:

  • Protected Species survey licences desirable, particularly bats
  • Experience creating habitat maps using GIS systems, particularly QGIS
  • Bat sound analysis using Analook
  • Sentinel card with PTS + AC/DCCR or willingness to obtain

Assistant Ecologist

The Role:

Your role will be to deliver professional ecological services to a broad range of clients and assist the senior-level ecologists in carrying out services.

You will be based in Lee on the Solent, Hampshire, with travel throughout the region and occasionally the surrounding areas. Your time will be divided between office and field-based work.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior-level ecologists in carrying out ecological services
  • Liaison with clients and other professionals and organisations
  • Production of technical ecological reports
  • Complete and lead in-field ecology and protected species surveys

Qualifications:

The following are essential:

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in a related field as a minimum
  • Strong all-around field skills, particularly in flora and fauna identification
  • Strong communication, organisation and team working skills, positive attitude, self-discipline and a desire to be challenged
  • Full drivers licence

The following are recommended:

  • Experience producing technical ecological reports
  • Protected species survey licences desirable
  • Experience creating habitat maps using GIS systems, particularly QGIS
  • Bat sound analysis using Analook

Seasonal Bat Surveyors

We are looking for seasonal bat surveyors to join our team in conducting bat surveys between May to September.

The Role:

The role involves dawn or dusk bat surveys throughout the survey season. The position offers flexible hours, with the option to choose the evenings you work. The position will involve approximately 6-14 hours per week (depending on availability), between Monday to Friday.

Experience & Requirements:

Previous experience with bat surveys is an asset but not essential. Training will be provided.

A driver's licence and vehicle is required.

Benefits:

Compensation is paid monthly at a per survey rate.

You will gain experience in ecological surveys and there may be further training or survey opportunities for other protected species.

Office Administrator

Role:

Your role will be to oversee the office environment including managing ecology survey schedules, responding to phone calls and emails and supporting the Accounts Manager.

This is an office-based position in Lee on the Solent, Hampshire.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage ecology survey schedules including coordinating clients, surveyors and resources as needed
  • Communicating the schedules to all relevant parties in a timely manner
  • Act as the first point of contact for phone calls, mail/packages and new emails and redirecting them to the relevant staff member
  • Track and replace office and survey supplies as necessary
  • Managing office budgets and liaising with staff, suppliers and clients
  • Support the Accounts Manager in bookkeeping and budgeting procedures
  • Assistant in maintenance of ISO-9001 documentation for the company
  • Assist colleagues wherever there is an opportunity to do so

Qualifications:

The following are essential:

  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent ability to multi-task and manage multiple calendars
  • Experience with:
    • Office and scheduling management
    • MS Office, especially Excel
    • Client account management and liaison
    • Account-managing software, particularly Quickbooks
  • Previous experience as an office administrator or office manager

The following are recommended:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience working within an ecological consultancy or an understanding of the equipment needed for such a business
  • Leadership / management training
  • Understanding of quality management, particularly ISO-9001
